The hope of getting rich through a jackpot or the right tips is still “pulling”:
the gaming market grew again last year (+5.2%), Internet portals have a strong plus (+18.6%). The gross gaming revenue of the providers was over 1.9 billion euros. In other words: we lose so much money playing games.
There were increases in turnover with the lottery “6 out of 45” (price increase, additional games) and with the Joker, with Euromillionen a small minus was observed by “branchenradar.com”. Incidentally, the lottery has the lowest payout ratio of all games of chance at around 50% (revenues flow, for example, into sports promotion). With slot machines or with Roulette it lies with over 90 per cent.
Stationary playing (in casinos, betting offices) is the largest with € 837 million, followed by lotteries (€ 703 million). The Internet is becoming increasingly important with double-digit growth rates to € 371 million.
This also includes those platforms that do not have a domestic licence (but are based in Malta, Gibraltar or Cyprus), but nevertheless pay taxes in Austria. In addition to Win2day (Casinos Austria), there are 14 other relevant providers. Whether these are “illegal” is decided by the ECJ during ongoing proceedings.
