Billions in turnover for eSports 2020

According to market analysis, the eSports 2020 will be the first year in which eSports will generate sales in excess of one billion dollars. The number of viewers is expected to rise to almost 500 million.
As has been observed for years, eSports revenues will continue to grow in 2020. According to a detailed market analysis by Newzoo, the 1 billion dollar mark will be broken this year. Also, the global number of viewers is expected to rise to almost 500 million.
1.1 billion US dollar turnover in 2020
In their sixth edition of the market analysis of eSports, Newzoo industry insiders predict a total turnover of 1.1 billion US dollars. According to the forecasts, China would become the nation with the highest turnover in eSports and push the USA from first place.
The largest revenues in eSports will continue to be generated by sponsors. By 2020, sponsors are expected to generate more than $636 million in revenues, an increase of 17.2%.
In 2019, 885 major eSports events took place, generating $56.3 million in ticket sales. This is an increase of 1.6 million compared to the previous year. The most-watched eSports event of the year was the League of Legends World Cup.
eSports thrill almost 500 million viewers
Another development that could be observed according to the report is the increase in the eSports audience. As a result, the number of viewers in eSports will increase from 443 million to 495 million unique viewers. The rise in turnover and viewers would, therefore, be coherent. Newzoo forecasts that in 2023 some 646 million viewers will watch eSports titles.
The annual growth in viewer numbers is mainly due to the development of emerging markets. South America, the Middle East, Africa, and South-East Asia would achieve the highest growth rates. Spreading urbanization, the expansion of IT infrastructures, and the spread of mobile devices are considered the main reasons for the steady growth.
