For the launch of the Open Beta of Dota Underlords, there is already a huge rush on Steam. The new Car battle game from Valve has already 3 times more simultaneous users on Steam online than the weakening Artefact, the last game from Valve, ever had online shortly after the launch of the Open Beta. It started with so much hype and effort.
So many players Dota Underlords has: At the moment the record of 176,633 players who downloaded Dota Underlords for free and play at the same time is at the same time.
With this value in peak, with the players active at the same time, the title is in 4th place at Steam, only behind the long runners PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2.
That was the player record at Artefact: The last game of Valve had about 60,000 players online at the same time on the launch day in November 2018. But this number quickly disappeared.
At the moment, the Artefact has only 100 players online. Therefore the comparison is unfair: Artefact was a “Buy2Play” title for 17,95€, so players had to buy it on Steam. Anyone can play Dota Underlords.
Nevertheless, this is a considerable difference -, especially in Valve’s expectations.
The Artefact was planned as a hit – Dota Underlords is one of them
That’s what’s behind it: The interesting thing here is that Artefact was planned right from the start as Valve’s “next eSports title and record game”.
The Artefact was released with relatively big hype and was considered a “Hearthstone killer”. Streamers were looking forward to the release. The Studio Valve has promised big eSports tournaments for Artefact, as dotesports reports.
That’s why the hard and brutal crash at the card game was so remarkable – Valve is regarded as a hit forge, which hardly misses anything.
Dota Underlords, on the other hand, shot up from a standing start and has already placed in the Top 5 on Steam.
The game follows the current trend of “Auto Chess”, but is considered easier and more accessible than competing games. Many fans can do something with the characters from Dota 2.
These two points and surely the Free2Play entry helps the game to climb heights on Steam, which Artefact could never reach.
