The playoffs have already started, and the matchup between G2 Esports and FaZe Clan was a real spectacle, at least for the local fans of G2. In the top duel between Team Liquid and Astralis, the US-Americans were able to prevail on Vertigo.
In an impressive game, especially for G2 fans, the French team G2 Esport won 2-0 against FaZe Clan in front of a home crowd in the Sud de France Arena.
Especially the “Oldstars” (France) shox and (France) KennyS showed a very good performance and led their team to the semi-finals. Train and Dust2 were played, Inferno was the third card on the menu, but it didn’t get that far. On their own Map-Pick (Train) the French started already with a strong offensive and led to the break with 8:7. In the second half, they built on the first half and won Train with 16:12. On Dust2 for the first time in a long time, there was a real AWP show by KennyS, coupled with a comfortable 16:8 victory.
While the G2 win by the crowd created the atmosphere, it was the teams themselves who made it to the second quarter-finals.
Liquid against Astralis, the duel for first place in the world rankings, had to be bombastic. Instead of an exciting game, however, there was in the first half on overpass only one to see: Rounds for Astralis. With 12:3 the Danes led after the break, it already looked like another blow-out. But the Americans did not give up that easily and caught up to 12:15 before Astralis won the card.
If overpass was a dominant victory for the Danes, Inferno proved to be a complete destruction for the Danes. Liquid did not lead 12:3 after the first half but 14:1, only one round the Danes took. It was not that Liquid won every duel at the beginning of the rounds; instead Liquid won a total of six rounds over a successful remake. In the second half, Astralis was able to win five more rounds but lost clearly with 16:6.
The decision: Vertigo as third card with top game
Even before the veto process, there was much speculation that Vertigo would make it into the matchup after both teams successfully played the card during the event. The suspicions were confirmed, and Liquid and Astralis met Vertigo as the deciding card. In the first half, the first card was repeated, and Astralis took an 11-4 lead with a strong offensive. In the second half, the second card was repeated, and Liquid shot Astralis 16:13 from the server. Especially (USA) EliGE and (USA) Stewie2K came to life after the break and carried their team across the finish line.
In the end, EliGE had an ADR of 100.5 and 28 kills, Stewie2K made it to 25 kills and an ADR of 91.7.
