Rockstar Games is adding gambling to the GTA 5 online mode as the Los Santos casino opens after years.
Remember the casinos in GTA: San Andreas? Man, how many times did we go to Las Venturas just to gamble away our hard-earned dollars (who says gangster life is easy?)?! When we passed the big casino north of Los Santos for the first time in GTA 5, we were hopeful that we could play poker, blackjack and other games of chance there. No chance! The building was not even accessible.
That seems to be changing now, six years after the release of the open world game GTA 5 – at least in GTA Online. On Twitter, developer Rockstar Games announced that a “luxurious casino in the heart of Vinewood” would soon open its doors. Vinewood is the GTA version of Hollywood, and that district is also home to the gambling mentioned above establishment. The US-American company has not disclosed any more information. There is only one thematically matching variant of the GTA Online logo, and that’s it – no more pictures, no details about the update and no more information about when it will be released.
It is also unclear whether the casino will only be accessible in the multiplayer part of GTA 5 or whether you will be allowed to gamble away the money from one of the various raids by the three crooks in the campaign as Michael, Franklin or Trevor. And that’s not the only interesting question we have to ask ourselves. Because if you lose your virtual dollars, which you may have bought for real money, in the casino of Los Santos, it is not so far away from real gambling. Could this be a problem for GTA Online, especially in countries like Belgium that have already banned loot boxes? This could lead to controversy.
