Los Angeles – eSports grows and grows. Dozens of new games were introduced at E3. And a few of them also have real eSports potential.
The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles is the most important games fair of the year. Most of the big game manufacturers present here what they want to bring onto the market in the coming year.
And of course, there are also a few games that could establish themselves as new eSports. Here are a few hot candidates:
FIFA 20
The FIFA series probably doesn’t need a big description anymore. The soccer simulation will also get a new version for the European Championship year 2020. Developer EA assures to listen to the heavy criticism of the players about FIFA 19 and designed the new system “Football Intelligence”.
Among other things, this should improve duels. Also, standard situations like penalty kicks and free kicks will be changed, and there will be a more realistic ball physics.
Also new is the “Volta” game mode, which is based on indoor football and the old “FIFA Street”. FIFA 20 will be released on 27 September 2019.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020
eSports could take very literally Segas game to the Olympics next year. In a trailer for “Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020”, the disciplines surfing, running, hurdling, football, skateboarding, fencing and swimming were shown.
Whether the whole thing with its arcade style is actually suitable as an eSports discipline is open. The game will be released in November 2019.
Bleeding Edge
The developers of Ninja Theory probably hear more often that “Bleeding Edge” is reminiscent of Overwatch. In the game, two teams of four players compete against each other and take each other on their hats.
In contrast to Overwatch, however, “Bleeding Edge” is played from a 3rd person perspective and focuses more on close combat. The players can adapt the characters to the individual playing style.
The right teamwork also enables devastating combos. Interested parties can register for a technical alpha from 27 June.
Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition
The almost 20-year-old real-time strategy classic “Age of Empires 2” (AoE2) gets a full remake including a new campaign.
The “Definitive Edition” gets a 4K UHD resolution, a better sound and prettier animations. To what extent better possibilities will be created for the small but loyal AoE2 eSports scene is still open.
Professional matches are currently being played over the Voobly gaming network. “Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition” will be released this year.
Roller Champions
This new title from Ubisoft leaked already shortly before the E3. “Roller Champions” looks like a mixture of Roller Derby and Rocket League: Two teams of three compete against each other in an oval arena.
The goal is to get a ball through a round goal and collect points. The more rounds the team has completed in the oval ring, the more points there are for a goal.
The first player to score five points wins. A demo of the game is still available until Friday for the PC free of charge via Uplay.
Guys case: Ultimate Knockout
Who hasn’t always wanted to be part of Takeshi’s Castle before? In “Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout”, 99 players complete an obstacle course in which they have to break through doors or steal eggs from a gigantic chicken.
The trailer for the game is colourful and exaggerated. But whether the title really makes it to eSports depends on how many random factors affect the result.
The more the player’s skill determines, the more likely we are to see Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout on an eSports stage. The game is to be released in 2020 for PC and PlayStation 4.
