The TAG Heuer Virtual Bundesliga season is over and the coveted Grand Final in Berlin is just around the corner. On 11 and 12 May, the Westhafen Event & Convention Center will determine the German champion in eFootball. FC Augsburg will be represented in Berlin by its player Yannic Bederke, who has qualified for the final.
The dream of the Grand Final was almost over. The eSports team of FC Augsburg, powered by LEW, missed the direct qualification for the Grand Final and finished the season in the VBL Club Championship in 9th place. In the playoffs Christoph “xThePunisher-96” Geule and Yannic “Yannic0109” Bederke had the last chance for tickets for the final in Berlin, but the Augsburg eSports team also had to accept bitter defeats here.
Hard fight in the playoffs
For Christoph “xThePunisher-96” Geule, the round of sixteen was over, while Yannic was determined to make it to the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, the Augsburg player played Niklas “NRaseck 7” Raseck. After a 2-2 draw and a 4-1 win over Yannic, Niklas entered the Grand Final and let Yannic’s dream of the final come to an end.
But there was still a chance to make it to the Grand Final. In the “Don’t Crack Under Pressure” match against “CodyDerFinisher” Yannic had to win to reach the Grand Final. CodyDerFinisher took the lead 2:0, but with a great fighting spirit, Yannic turned the match into a sensational 3:2 victory in the 89th minute! Thus Yannic Bederke was one of the 24 participants in the fight for the German eSports Championship.
Big competition in the Grand Final
Now Yannic Bederke even has the chance to elect himself a champion on May 12th in Berlin. But the competition is huge and the FCA is going to the final as an outsider. In the group phase, Yannic meets heavy opponents directly: Michael “MegaBit” Bittner, who won the VBL Club Championship with Werder Bremen and is considered one of the best Xbox players worldwide, Michael “BMG Phenomeno” Gherman, Christoph “H96_chrissi” Strietzel, Danny “Danny Troughton” Troughton and Niklas “NRaseck 7” Raseck are the opponents in his group.
In the group phase, Yannic will first meet each of his opponents in a first-round match. The first to third-placed players will automatically qualify for the knockout phase, the players in fourth and fifth place will fight for the last places in a “wildcard game” across all groups, before the round of sixteen starts.
