The free DLC, The Diamond Casino & Resort for GTA 5 Online, has been available for two days and is already banned in 53 countries. The reason for this is the gambling stakes in the virtual casino, which can now be visited in Los Santos.
In Blackjack, Roulette or the one-armed bandit, cash can be gambled away, but without being able to win cash yourself. An obvious gold mine for Rockstar, who has made over half a billion dollars in micro-transactions in GTA Online over the past three years.
Users can invest up to 75 euros in a so-called Shark Card, which in turn is worth eight million GTA dollars – the in-game currency that can be squandered in the casino. In Germany and Austria, players may only invest GTA dollars for the time being that they have earned in the game before and have not bought extra.
GTA Online: Casino update banned in more than 50 countries
In many other countries, this restriction does not exist. And so access to the entire content update is blocked in countries such as Argentina, China, Greece, Iran, Iceland, Luxembourg, North and South Korea, Poland, Portugal and the Czech Republic. There you have to do without the new story missions, vehicles, activities and collectables.
