The World Championship in “League of Legends” has begun. 2019 could be the year of the Europeans.
The World Cup of the Most Played Strategy Game has not taken place so close to us for a long time. The “League of Legends” tournament called Worlds 2019 starts in Berlin. After the group phase, the pros will travel to Madrid and then on to Paris.
Last year, according to developer Riot, the World Cup attracted around 100 million spectators, which even eclipsed the top leagues of traditional sports such as basketball and baseball.
Europe has more opportunities than ever before
The 2019 World Cup should be fascinating. After years of Korean dominance, the Europeans were able to assert themselves for the first time in various international tournaments.
Team G2 Esports, in particular, is considered the top favourite of this year’s championship, as it won practically all tournaments in the year. Among them was the Mid-Season Invitational, where the team won against the best in the world.
A month of games
Whether the winning streak will continue at the World Cup will be decided in the next five weeks. First, the play-in stage will take place. Twelve teams will fight for the last four places in the group stage. This will also take place in Berlin and will last from 12th to 20th October.
In Madrid, the teams will play in the quarter-finals and semi-finals. The grand final will finally take place on 10th November in the Paris Accorhotels Arena.
