In Vegas, the US professional succeeds in a feat that we last experienced 40 years ago at the World Series of Poker.
Not a bad week for outstanding WSOP milestones. In addition to successfully defending his title in the same event, a player has also done a feat he hasn’t seen since the 1970s.
Colorado’s Loren Klein was able to send a field of 218 players to the rail in the $2,500 Mixed Big Bet for a grand prize of $127,808. More importantly, the success brought him his fourth bracelet in four consecutive years.
Only Bill Boyd and Doyle Brunson have been able to do the same – 40 years ago. Boyd won four bracelets in consecutive years between 1971 and 1974, while Brunson did the trick between 1976 and 1979, in his case six in four years.
However, the World Series of Poker is not the only tournament series in which Klein demonstrates impressive consistency. He has also won the Run It Up Reno Main Event twice in the last four years and took second place in the same tournament this year.
Below are Klein’s bracelet successes over the past four years:
Year Event Field Prize
2016 $1,500 Mixed No-Limit Hold ’em/Pot-Limit Omaha 919 $241,427
2017 $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha 870 $231,483
2018 $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 8-Handed Championship 476 $1,018,336
2019 $2,500 Mixed Big Bet 218 $127,808
