England Lacrosse Team Swap Sticks for Running Shoes
Thursday, 6th May 2010
European Lacrosse Champions, England, have continued their training by seeking expert coaching tips from another English hero, Shaunna Thompson.
Aptly, on St. George’s Day, the two English hopefuls shared training tips, in both speed and strength.
The England Lacrosse squad are in intense training ahead of the World Lacrosse Championships, which are being held in Manchester from 15th July to 24th July.
Shaunna Thompson, the 2012 Olympic hopeful and 2009 Gold medallist at the 200m and 100m Commonwealth Youth Games, was on hand to provide tips to the squad on how to be quick off the mark and to run rings around their opponents at the Championships.
Both Shaunna and the England squad will be competing in a world-class weekend of running in Manchester on the 15th and 16th May. The England squad will be running in the he Great Manchester 150 on the 15th May and Shaunna will compete in the Great CityGames, against some of the world’s best athletes, on the 16th May. The Great City Games will be shown live on BBC2.
The Great Manchester 150 is held on a four lane track, which was run by Usain Bolt to record the fastest time in history over 150m, at last year’s Great CityGames Manchester. Lacrosse is dubbed the “the fastest sport on 2 feet” and the English team will be out to prove that on the track.
There are sponsorship opportunities still available for both the World Lacrosse Championships itself, as well as the England squad, who have had to fundraise to help compete in the Championships.
Dave Elwood Head Coach of the England Lacrosse team said:
“The England Lacrosse team are currently in training and are competing in the Manchester 150 to raise money to help them to compete in the World Lacrosse Championships. Unlike many other England sporting teams where the athletes are paid to compete, the English Lacrosse team don’t receive outside funding so they all have full time jobs as well as playing Lacrosse.”
Only 2,500 seats now remain available to the public. Season Passes are on sale and will secure your seat at the Final Match in addition to over 100 more World Class lacrosse matches. Tickets are on sale at http://www.2010worldlacrosse.com/tickets
There are also few sponsorship opportunities left for those who would like to be part the FIL 2010 World Lacrosse Championships.
