In addition to a year round programme of sports events, Manchester is packed with activities and entertainment to keep even the most ardent sports fan amused! As many of the city’s attractions are free to enter and if you keep your eyes peeled you’ll find lots of offers on food & drink which makes Manchester a destination which offers fantastic value for money.
Whatever sporting event you’re here for, a trip won’t be complete without a visit to either Manchester United or Manchester’s City’s museum and stadium tour. Both venues have won awards for their behind the scenes tours, giving you the chance to sit in the director’s box and see the players changing rooms. The Quays, is a waterfront destination home to a number of attractions, including Manchester United and Old Trafford Cricket Club – two sporting institutions. The Quay’s stunning waterfront houses two spectacular attractions – The Lowry and The Imperial War Museum North, both of which are free to enter. The Lowry’s art gallery showcases original paintings by Manchester painter LS Lowry, art activities and free fun days. Across the footbridge, witness dramatic exhibitions at The Imperial War Museum North.
The Trafford Quays Leisure Village has great value activities which will keep you energized for hours. Chill Factore, the UK’s largest indoor ski slope offers skiing, snowboarding and climbing. Taster lessons last approximately one hour, allowing you plenty of time to attend your sporting event on the very same day. Practise golfing techniques or miniature golf in the great outdoors at Playgolf just a stones throw away. Alternatively, make a day of it and do it all, followed by a spot of retail therapy at The Trafford Centre, with over 230 stores under one roof.
The city centre is a great place to continue shopping with high street favourites at Manchester Arndale and Market Street. Label lovers can visit Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and The Triangle in Exchange Square. The Northern Quarter is the place to discover independent designers, record shops and vintage.
As well as being the home of Manchester City Football Club, the City of Manchester Stadium is part of the <Sportcity> district, which houses an array of spectacular sporting facilities where the major cycling, squash, tennis and netball events often take place. Test the track of the British Cycling Team at Manchester Velodrome. You don’t need to be an athlete to get involved, just hire the bike and helmet for a taster.
At the end of an action packed day, enjoy cocktails at Cloud 23 Bar and take in the magnificent views from the 23rd floor of Beetham Tower – the tallest building in Manchester.
