Known until recently as “The Peeps”, the team took the overall victory at the 2019 Dreamhack Pro Circuit and will be riding the Pittsburgh Knights jerseys in the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) in the Boost from now on.
The Knights have recently partnered with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Thus an eSports organisation is supported by a well-known NFL team.
All players are only 16 years old and are the youngest team in the league.
Jirair “Gyro” Papazian, Slate “Retals” Thomas and Nick “mist” Costello now wear the black-yellow jersey.
Non-violent and for a large audience
Speaking to The Esports Observer, former Counter-Strike pro and Pittsburgh Knights advisor Garett Bambrough said, “Rocket League is the best ‘non-franchise’ game an organisation can get into.”
Furthermore, he sees great potential in the Rocket League, as it is non-violent and easy to understand the game. For this reason, the Autoball-Fiesta is equally interesting for spectators and a wide range of sponsors. So the financial interests of the organisation are also covered.
“If there is a game that could be heard at the Olympic Games in the future, it would be the Rocket League – because of its non-violent nature,” hopes Bambrough.
“To represent an organisation partnered with one of the biggest teams in the NFL is a dream come true,” says Bambrough.
In addition to the new Rocket League task, the Knights also managed teams in Smite, Paladins, PUBG, PUBG Mobile, Apex Legends, GWENT, Madden NFL 20 and Super Smash Bros.
